Le Creuset Cast Iron Round Casserole, Volcanic, 20 cm

It makes a great one-pot solution as all the sautéing, sealing can be done in the pot on the hob before sliding into a low oven for some long, slow cooking. Obviously, being iron the heat is transferred around the pot more uniformly that a normal casserole and with the extremely tight-fitting lid, dishes retain more moisture. I have put this casserole in the oven and gone out only to return home an hour or more late! I need not have worried as this casserole has saved the day and there was not a sign of the food drying out or appearing burnt.

On the downside is the weight. Perhaps elderly folk might find this pot a tad on the heavy side especially when it come to washing it up. The two ergonomic handles do make it safe to transfer form the hob to oven though.

When not in use it would be a shame to hide this pot away in a cupboard. Leave in pride of place on a worktop and admire its classic good looks!

Simply brilliant - this versatile Casserole Dish/Cocotte/French Oven is ideal for all sorts of recipes and my current favourite in this 'pot' is:-

Easy to clean by hand - although some soaking and a rub with a plastic brush may be required for the more stubborn baked-on food remains - or simply pop it in the dishwasher!

I find the casserole very appropriate for cooking and very useful, since you can take it directly to the table and serve from it

It was through the regular emails from Amazon that I checked out the links to my purchase. I have been wanted to buy a Le Creuset for sometime but cost had prohibited me. The cost from Amazon was quite reasonable so I went for it and am delighted with the quality and what a difference it makes to what I thought was already my perfect casserole, the food is cooked to perfection.

Such a great pot. 20cm is the perfect size for a small pot - anything small I now cook in it (including rice and such). very happy with it. And... it's beautiful!
